Introduction

Microsoft confirmed a first-ever increase to the pricing of Dynamics 365 Business Central from October 1, 2025, after over five years of frozen pricing. This highlights a major shift following the huge investments in AI, analytics, and platform capabilities.

What It is Becoming: Price & Storage Adjustments

The changes to pricing for end-user licenses are as follows:

On a worldwide basis, these rates will be charged with adjustments for local currency when a user or device license is renewed or newly procured after October 1, 2025.

Why Is Microsoft Increasing Its Pricing?

The causes of its updated increase:

Extensive Innovation Over 5+ Years

Before the last update, the company rolled out hundreds of new features across finance, analytics, supply chain, manufacturing, sustainability, and master data management.

AI Copilot and Automations

With underlying contributions from AI for financial analysis, account reconciliation, and Copilot-assisted workflows, we have really been able to gain efficiencies.

Improved Integrations and Platform Enhancements

Stronger connections with Power Platform, Teams, and sustainability modules significantly improve business usability.

Higher Storage Allocation Included

With the shift to AI-first operations, Microsoft is increasing the included storage from 3 GB to 5 GB for Premium users.

What This Means for Users

Existing Users

You can lock in current pricing if you renew before October 1, 2025. After that, the new rates will apply at your first renewal or for new subscriptions.

New Customers

Any new subscription from October 1 onward will be under updated pricing.

Team Member Licenses

These are not affected by this update.

On-Premises Licenses

These are not included; the changes only apply to cloud subscriptions.

How to Plan and Prepare

Lock in Current Prices Early

Renew or add new licenses before September 30, 2025, to avoid the price increase.

Reassess License Needs

Reduce unused licenses or convert users to lighter “Team Member” roles where possible.

Deploy New Features

Create plans to use Copilot, Power Platform connections, analytics dashboards, and sustainability tools; these warrant the price increase.

Partner with Microsoft Specialists

Work closely with your Microsoft partner to make the most of licenses and secure annual or biannual terms.

Incorporate into Budget Forecasting

For your 2026 financial planning, expect a 14-15% price increase to avoid surprises.

Final Takeaway

Microsoft’s suite of AI improvements and deeper platform integrations over the past five years has increased the value of Business Central. While the October 2025 pricing update may seem steep, it corresponds with significant new features and expanded storage.

Action Steps:

Audit your renewal dates.
Lock in existing rates before the October deadline.
Strategically deploy new capabilities after renewal to maximize ROI.

By acting early, businesses can secure today’s pricing and position themselves to fully benefit from Business Central’s evolving features.
