QuickBooks is a great start for a small business. As you grow, it gets harder: more entities, more inventory, more people and more spreadsheets around it. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is the next step. Akkomplish is a US-based Business Central partner headquartered in Rockville, Maryland, and we help growing US businesses make that move without losing their data or their month-end.
Signs you have outgrown QuickBooks
- You run more than one company or location, and consolidating them takes days.
- Inventory, purchasing or warehouse work happens in spreadsheets or a separate tool.
- You need approvals, user permissions and an audit trail that QuickBooks doesn’t give you.
- Reports need exporting to Excel and rebuilding every month.
- More people need access at the same time, from anywhere.

What Business Central adds
- Finance for growing companies: multiple companies, dimensions for reporting by department or location, approvals and bank reconciliation.
- Inventory and operations: purchasing, sales orders, warehouses, assembly and manufacturing in the same system.
- Microsoft 365 built in: it works inside Outlook, Excel and Teams, with Power BI reports and Copilot.
- Cloud: Microsoft hosts and updates it, and your team signs in from anywhere.
What moves from QuickBooks
Business Central includes Microsoft’s own migration tools for both QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online. They bring over:
- customers, vendors and items;
- your chart of accounts and beginning balances in the general ledger;
- on-hand inventory quantities;
- open invoices, credit memos and payments for customers and vendors.
Some things need care, and we handle them for you:
- Open documents come over at their full amounts, so partial payments are applied manually.
- Open purchase and sales orders are not migrated.
- Microsoft’s QuickBooks Desktop export tool only supports the 2017 and 2018 versions. For other versions, we load your data with templates.
Migrated transactions arrive unposted, so your accountant can check them before anything is posted.

Frequently asked questions
Can we move from both QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online?
Yes. Microsoft provides a migration tool for each. Older Desktop versions need an extra export step, which we handle.
Will we lose our history?
Balances, open items and master data move over. For older detail, we agree on what to keep, for example a read-only QuickBooks file or reports archived before the switch.
How long does it take?
It depends on the number of companies, inventory and integrations. After a short review we give you a clear timeline and cost.
Do you work with companies outside Maryland?
Yes. We are based in Rockville, Maryland and work with businesses across the USA, on site and remotely.
